IGNs Call of Duty World at War Preview

IGN has also posted up their preview for Call of Duty: World at War. They have also included some new footage. Check it out:
The action starts off quietly, though, as the squad infiltrates through the swamp, only to come upon a crashed US Navy plane. A squad member climbs up to the cockpit to check the condition of the pilot only to discover that the body is booby-trapped with a grenade. As soon as it explodes Japanese soldiers, heavily camouflaged with branches and leaves, erupt out of the brush and the fight is on. There's lots of running people through with bayonets, point-blank gunfire, and chaos.
Get through the ambush and it's time to move out of the swamp into the grassland. The flamethrower comes in very handy at this point, since there's plenty of tall grass for Japanese soldiers to hide in. No problem; just burn it down. Also take out those trees where snipers like to camp. If you have two players, you can both have flamethrowers, which makes quick work of the jungle, but you have to be careful of where you point that thing. The flamethrower makes short work of grunts, and it is a bit disturbing how realistic it is. Guys melt when you torch them.

Call of Duty: World at War Hank Keirsey Interview about World Wars
The guys from AppScout recently had the chance to attend the Activision Holiday 2008 Game Preview event where they were able to play Call of Duty: World at War as well as interview the COD military advisor, Hank Keirsey. Check it out:
Playing this game confirmed my earlier predictions: The charging Japanese enemies in the game react similarly to the dogs that players fought in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in that they charge at you screaming with bayonets. This time, they're slower and bigger targets; so make sure you pick them off beforehand. Playing the game on the Xbox 360 is quite an experience, and playing in cooperative mode makes you feel more at ease that someone on your squad isn't controlled by the AI. Watching the flamethrower in action is great and the environments (and enemies) seem to burn the same way videos of Far Cry 2 show. Expect relentless fighting in both wide-open fields and in the close quarters of buildings. We got a taste of some new content to the game--all I can say at this point is that players from Modern Warfare will possibly see more similarities than differences between the two games. Hank Keirsey, Military Advisor for the game, has more info in the video below. Shipping to all platforms (except PSP) this fall.

No Call of Duty 5 Release This Year

Kotaku is reporting that a new Call of Duty game, yet to be announced, will hit shelves in 2009 and will likely be created by Infinity Ward. Take a look:
You wouldn't be surprised to learn that "an all-new Call of Duty" title will be released in 2009, would you? Good, because that's exactly what's going to happen, according to Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, who talked up the next Call of Duty in a post earnings release con call.
Kotick said that the publisher will "leapfrog" studios, which we'll assume to mean that, since Treyarch is hard at work on Call of Duty: World At War, that Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward will be taking the reins on this one.
The Infinity Ward team has one unspecified project in the works for Activision, whom it just re-signed with, rumored to possibly have a sci-fi bent to it. Space marines? It's just crazy enough to work.

Battlefield 3.. December 2008?

I found this information while looking around for some Battlefield 3 news:
This was supposedly information from a PDF that was outlining features for Battlefield 3. The three page document is apparently prepared for investors which should get it by December of this year. It details basic features of BF3, and are as listed:
Release in late 2008
Powered by “Frostbite DX”
Set in year modern day (just like BF2, ed.)
Will ship with 8 maps, each supporting up to
40-players per team
Two playable factions, NATO and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)
Same “ticket-based” gameplay style as before
Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
Squads and Commanders are present, introduced
are “Battalions” which consist of three to four squads.
Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault,
Engineer, Medic and Support
Will feature 48 different vehicles (24 for each faction)
Will feature 34 different weapons (17 for each faction) and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
Possible public beta in “Summer 2008″
Online stats tracking, awards and “real world ranks”
“Soldier” feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
Ranked servers will be available for resellers
weeks before the game ships (for testing, apparently, ed.)
In-game replay and recording feature
VoIP, friends list, in-game IM-client and “extensive clan xsupport”
Built-in auto software updater (no more patches!, ed.)
Widows Vista and OS X (no XP?!, ed.) Announcement and teaser trailer in January
2008.
A map is mentioned by name, called “Baghdad Burning”, and appears to be a massive urban map, similar to BF2’s very popular “Strike at Karkand”. The game is powered by “Frotbite DX”, currently the Frostbite engine is used in Battlefiled: Bad Company on PS3 and Xbox 360. The “DX” could refer to DirectX (10?), a PC version of the Frostbite engine.

Sneak Peek at New Frontlines Server Browser

Joe Halper, a Senior Producer for THQ / Kaos Studios, has released three screenshots of the new server browser to be included in the next patch. Take a look:
Screenshot #1 (Exclusive to Frontlines Warfare)
"The new Patch 1.1.0 server browser adds much improved functionality and options including filters, message of the day, and more."
Screenshot #2 (Exclusive to Planet Frontlines)
"Patch 1.1.0 allows you to interrupt the server when performing a refresh. In general, the browser is faster and refreshes less."
Screenshot #3 (Exclusive to Fuelofwar.de (German))
"The new patch adds Punkbuster, which can be enabled or disabled depending on what server your playing on."
See this update from Frontlines Status here and be sure to click the thumbnail images of the screenshots above to visit the sites exclusively hosting the shots. ( Frontlines Warfare, Planet Frontlines, and Fuelofwar.de )
